David E. Matthews: In this degenerate age, the audience cannot tell the difference between an original and an imitation, or a plagiarism, or a hoax, or a parody, or an AI amalgamation. Moreover, whatever the intent of the artist, the audience member will install the art in a room furnished in his own taste in his own mind, so that the colors, the style, and the function do not clash. Art that is Art creates an aha! moment, a feeling in the audience; absent that, the audience gladly supplies the feeling based upon their own education, sensibility, and prejudices. Art for myself, then, is a solitary, unrequited exercise in being a failure.
