The Fine Art of Full Body Swimming

Snow grooming can have negative effects.  So can the snow packing that goes along with it.  Compacting the snow reduces permeability and the water holding capacity of the slopes.  Heat flow rates and the length of snow retention can increase.  All this combined produces longer and deeper frost penetration into the soil which causes negative effects on the underlying tussock.  The compacted areas need to be marked and shifted around over time to reduce ecological effects.
