War, O Yes! Extracts from the reports of Melia
Part 3

Our great and wise leader.

There are many great places to hide. The city has been bombed repeatedly from the air. "Come out you little bastards," they scream. "Come out the War is nearly over. Soon our restaurants will serve our food on your main street, our movies will be shown in your movie houses, we will be dancing to our music in your dance halls and we will be drunk on our beer." I missing going to the movies, eating popcorn, sucking soda through a straw, all the while dreaming of kissing the starlet. "Don’t listen to them," said Captain H., winking. "They are lying." Captain H. is small, bald and over weight. Before the war Captain H. was a butcher. Captain H. told us that they would eat us if they captured us. "I was once in X and I had a sandwich and on the sandwich with lettuce, tomato, mayo and mustard was the fingers of a child." We spend all of our time on our bellies. On your belly you get to know the earth personally. You get to know the mud, the slush, the crap.
