An Interview with Sketta Lee
Part 3

AF: What equipment do you use and what's your favorite smoke?

SL: Equipment and smoke? Two different things or smoke as in something dealing with equipment? I have Mac and PC computers, MBOX with ProTools and a regular studio mic. Fender Stratocaster guitar, Peavy bass, Yamaha keyboard and tons of software to go with all that. Smoking, I’m in the military so I can’t smoke marijuana but I would if I could. I hate cigarettes or cigars though.

AF: What kind of drums do you play and what pets do you own?

SL: A BOSS DR 770 Drum Machine and I love cats. I have one and a half (one is a stray cat).

AF: What's your favorite hangout and your favorite automobile?

SL: Favorite city, hmmm. Savannah, Georgia right now. My favorite vehicle is the Cadillac. I own a Fleetwood.

AF: What's the worst place you've crashed and your worst haircut?

SL: I think I got that worst haircut today. I’m picky about my hair but sometimes I’m slack on where I go. It was never a very bad haircut though. Wait, when I was little, one night my grandmother was babysitting while my parents were playing music, I cut my sister’s hair and it was all messed up. I don’t know why I did it, but my parents came home and found out and got hers fixed at a salon and shaved my head bald, the day after we had a wedding to attend (my uncle) and obviously we all took pictures so I got pictures to remember that night forever!

AF: Worst roommate and best audience?

SL: Never had a bad roommate (knock on wood) Best audience, when I was little I would play accordion sitting in with the band sometimes and I was like 12 or 13, I would play a song and I would sing. People would be dancing and run up and throw money at me like crazy. I loved that. Memories!!!

AF: What clothes do you like to wear onstage and what do you eat on the road?

SL: I wear whatever I’m wearing that day. I don’t do much onstage stuff just yet but that’s what I would do, whatever. Nothing special, it’s not about the looks, its about the music. Eating on the road, Wendy’s is really good. I also love a Hardee’s Thick Burger!

AF: What's the worst stage you've played and your best payday?

SL: As I said I never did that much stage stuff but once I performed an anthem for a bike group that I did (Sick Boys Anthem), and we were performing from speakers and a mixer and CD walkman with my instruments all right out the trunk of my Cadillac in a bad part of town plugged into the telephone poles. Cops came and we all hand to leave. Boo to the po po's. Best pay would have to be working on CD cover work. 300 bucks for about two hours of work is never bad!

AF: What are your influences and worst equipment experience?

SL: My influences are everyone in the music business, if they can do it, so can I. They all play a part in my striving. Worst equipment experience is working on a Windows PC making tracks. Screw Windows with its crashing. That’s why I’m switching everything over to Mac.

AF: What are your songs about and what's your favorite drink?

SL: My favorite drink is water, because you know already it doesn't really do anything bad to your body. Water been around since the beginning of time. I’m not into coke or alcoholic stuff. But I do get drunk! Most of my songs right now are about the things that seem to appeal to everyone. ‘I’m balling and I got hoes’ type of music. But I’m really planning on changing that. It used to be about what people wanted to hear and liked from me. And now I don’t care about that. I want to make music about what I’m feeling.

AF: What's your favorite tour/show memory and worst band squabble?

SL: I wish I had a good answer for this one. I’ve never been on tour, but my best performance was for a little kid at a motorcycle shop. I performed the Sick Boys Anthem and the kid dug it. Worst squabble would be when I’m not in the mood to be in the studio on a day and an artist of mine wants to go in but can’t do it without me. So its like ahhhh, I need some me time.

AF: What's the stupidest move your singer ever pulled?

SL: Deciding not to sing anymore. I was working with a female vocalist and she was great, we did two tracks and one is released on my Made For It album (I’m Trill) but then she got caught up with the wrong people, got pregnant and that ended it. Oh well. Fate is whatever it’s supposed to be.
