Gauging Priorities

We sat in the den
watching Queen For A Day.
A clapmeter gauged applause
calculating which life
was most bereft;
which person
most pathetic.
Grandma Annie
sat on the edge of the divan,
critiquing the show;
as though she knew who lied
and who embellished.
She relished each story of pain and woe.
Her mouth hanging open;
blue eyes,
glued
to the set.
As my brother and I
wanted to know,
it is time for dinner
yet?
