The Hell of it All

Waking from earth-shattered
Dreams in a windswept world,
I pry open my computer to
Pay homage to the word,
Koreatown did nothing for me,
It brought nothing to life, was
Dying before my eyes,
The merchants with their Colt 1911s
And sawed-off shotguns beneath
The registers. Glendale is a huge
Mayberry - boring to death, but
Safe and quiet. Glendale is a non-event
To LA - that's why angels prefer to
Come here on faint ancient nights
When the moon is at half-strength
And the cats howl their hunger;
The venom plaguing LA seems
Miles away.
