Reunion

While walking across the campus,
A ghost of myself I met,
Aroused from a sleeping past filled
With longing, yet some regret.

The memories rich came flooding
Wherever this ghost alit.
Emotions both light and brooding,
Too tangled for me to split.

At instant my ghost together
Stood with me, a spirit merged,
Remembered the youthful pleasure
That 25 years had purged.

But tenuous that connection,
And fleeting the moment shared.
Ephemeral as reflection,
Chain broken beyond repair.

For never can one recover
That blessing to be naive.
Like Orpheus, shadow lover
Eurydice can’t retrieve.
