The Hunchback

Quasimodo, does the name
Ring a bell?  He's a lump
Of kindness rattling around
My bell tower, too hideous to
Look straight in the eye. Yet still
The bells continue to toll.
The words come slowly as
Muscles of pain flex in thought.
  The ropes pull taut
       And peels echo,
             Clear as time.
