Damp

delicate patterns
honeysuckle and lace
stained by memories that dropped from my face
a comfortable yellow
ridden with knots
bends me together, tears me apart

spiral slowly, pattern
contrast life from light
until my mind will waken
and claim its old respite

his gangly fingers
his gaunt cheekbones
pound over lyrics
(I’ll never let go)
the melting of hot sweat
(he hits like he talks)
The dream ends, I’m panting,
my mind at a block.
