Black Men

Older black men
pace these ghetto streets
like tomcats -
ears bent,
dirt on shoulders hunched
against wind,
the limp;
caterwauling.
Proud survivor of the street.
The hoarse, low growl of a voice calls out -
"Hello Beautiful;"
beaten up tomcat,
still courting.
