Three Poems by Billy Cancel

but will you provide me a shape to return in?
pile up of hanging-outs        now listen
         stark pitiless excuse my
       thrill seeker's allowance
all blown on shuttlebus     tracing narrative defects through grey pylons wet fields
back to fragrant ash Atlantic Electric site
stable temp bright jarring proof too accurate searchlight
whoever sees radiant boy     must leap from church tower disappear
in blue flame remember inside the flame is a little black train
              moonlight serenade       like making fun
out of the mouths     of insects so      would rather let
              it disappear
& take long way home rather than pass here at midnight
likeable low-key       us equivocators don't       push to the front we
have        eye like a sword / a posthumously
compiled boxset of session guitar outtakes
little valley carpet of short moorland turf
                 gorse heath edges very lovely
but long red summer who will
provide me a shape to return in?

jelly blade     marginal grip     a head cut loose
gemini mesh     metro clamp     hard
magic     hidden link sharpening     can
  see it     switchick     single
   nerve     switchick looking back     terminal
    cluster     makeway i am cheapo
   sandblast incandescent
   dark blue hope burst
        lead
   year      birth right      brave show
   flourescent pixie-led
panic-switch absence
 sculptural spill
dorcus rough draft
happening upon     bright
immersion sea     curve cracked
     unmoved@standstill
promiscuous receptor
calling kettle back so i submit
touch-the-hat request relating to ominous stargate

bloody benefit of the fucking doubt
towards supply       shredown       neither drone
culture       nor off-the-grid       evangelical
ham       info-blast charred       5 in 10
sentences end in remorse     kissing you
baby     like great wall of china     am
your 1-stop      shop for
cake decor in
central scar circle     middle
of dead     left for
     nowhere     but as & when
freehold transfer of public restrooms gets agreed i'll serenade you triple threat
'cos the twist     has gone babe gone
away left me
with delusions     delusions
of reference
     once swift brown
rough shape stood up 'mongst heavy
gorsebush rushed glided
through me into
rushing stream all time slow red smooth slob crawls out of stream passes me rolling into gorse
