Adults do not talk to us—they give us directions. They issue orders without providing information. When we trip and fall down they glance at us; if we cut or bruise ourselves, they ask us are we crazy. When we catch colds, they shake their heads in disgust at our lack of consideration. —Toni Morrison

Let's Make It New

Two Poems by Michael Brandonisio

Jacques Said

I am a mirror
         made of opium
I break myself
      into pieces
  and then I love
    myself
              with a bullet
  and a ruler
       into              more

Love who I am
    one not like you
            ever will
                   love
  like I love
      myself in the
                gla

       made of                 I
             glued back
         like I      said
              I would

ssssss        ssszzz        zzzssszzz

it's been a pleasure
                                    all mine
like it was back in Verdun
    like
           I

                      it
                          would

Blindfolds & Manacles

I sleep like a mannequin decaying incarnate
I do not sleep that well not at all
Night sorrows I paid with cold money
Black mind white war grim end zero gravitas
Bodies where the red lights play
I lost sight of them
I was not thinking about them
Telepathic sensurround for Pete's sake
Vestal virgins yearning to sleep beside you
Cooing atonal "Build a bridge tonight"
                   Antiseptic as you like it
I do not like it like this
I do not like it like that
Nine months was a long time ago
Because I was slower than the rest
Post-partum umbilical discord
The blue sound of the sea ship\wrecked
