Enchanting Dachau

Enchanting Dachau
In a fairy tale forest
So pool table green
You expect to see reindeer.

Bus nears rattling
Windows fogged, sweaty.
Nervous war relic driver grunts
Brusque dismissal.

Commemorative steins
Of blue enamel history
Line shelves,
Over a bland spaetzel lunch.

Missing bricks.
Gray wood like Death.

I heard an Ugly American say:
“Let’s go see the inferno.”
