Why Stop ThereTo Jonathan Penton's previous piece To Sink Slowly, You NeedTo Jonathan Penton's next piece

"We were younger then,"
you say,
as if we are not infants now.
Do you mean that we have grown wiser,
or simply less attractive?

"I mean that one cannot predict
tomorrow based on what happened before."

There is
truth in this:
If the future is undiscovered
it must be different from the past.

Although the Windsors
are indistinguishable from the Tudors
and the fascists
of today
are those
of yesterday

perhaps lovers share
a different anatomy.

Just because the sun rose this morning
there's no reason
to expect tonight to ever end.
