Staring into the fire
and
don't you want to know
how to feel all that heat
without getting burned?
Don't you want to touch it
Those orderly coals
The fingerbone husks of wood ash

Poke it with a stick
and watch the sparks go mad
watch the white patterns dissolve
into glowing orange chaos
Don't you want to reach for it
and examine its perfection
Take inside something stronger than yourself

The most beautiful ecosystem,
it eats that which is dead
and shits out intense colors
and throbbing energy
Don't you want to let it take you
and do as it will
Don't you want to feel a heat beyond
what you know how to feel?
