Our days were measured in cigarettes-
We’d sit together- electric-
Amid the puffs of smoke
And the music that bound us.

He’d touch and I’d cringe,
So we’d talk some more,
Or sit in silence-

All light was filtered
Through nicotine stained
Lampshades-

It was always cold that summer
And sunlight blinded us,
But it was rarely seen…

It was just us then-
Simple and happy-

And when we were out of
Cigarettes,
It was time to go to bed.
