Did not
Could not

Each affection
Lavished upon me
A purple blueprint -
She says,
"See, that's how you're supposed to
Make someone feel better."

I try to match the steps
While trying to seem like
I'm dancing freestyle

The soundtrack in my head plays
"It Must Have Been Love"
and
"50 Ways to Leave Your Lover"
But falls short of

"Red Rubber Ball"
or
"We Can Work It Out"
