Korean War Bride

Caught in the turmoil
Of war, to survive,
She met a soldier
Who kept her alive,
Saved her from starving
And gave her a son,
Died on the battlefield
So costly won.

Hounded by hatred
Her heart could not stand,
She brought the child to
A strange distant land,
Fed him and clothed him
The best that she could,
Gave him a happy life;
Misunderstood
By her relations,
Her tears fell like rain.
Death's sweet oblivion
Ended her pain.
