Dawn at the Salzgitter-Bad Train Station

Looking west out of the dirty train station
you might be excused for thinking
we were someplace familiar.

It could be taken for Michigan,
I know a spot like this near Detroit.
The factories heedlessly throw up their beams
fires rage all night; the late shift workers have no solace.

What magic hand spreads these metals everywhere?
my town looks like yours
one newspaper,
parallel streets,
and that bright steely glow, flickering one last time in the distance.
