Discourse with oneselfTo Jonathan Penton's previous piece MessageTo Jonathan Penton's next piece
When she paints
she ratchets his hands up to the size of his head
an exaggeration
almost a parody
of Michaelangelo's David

But when you meet him, you realize
that his hands are small
tiny, even
feminine, except for his coarse hair
it's his feet that are huge

And he stands there, amidst the paintings and the people
simple and displaced
staring at us
perched upon his tiny hands
and his monstrous feet
