The Thirties, Bartok Plays the Piano,
Attila Jozsef is in the Audience
           by Otto Orban

silence music
silence music
silence music
             melody
      f i r e s t r i n g
             between
    sound and sound and
              sound
in the center of a flood of light
          on a piano stool
his fingers run up and down on the keyboard
          thunders and whispers
the dumb howl in response to the act
            the ecstasy
            the suffering
            the instinct
                                the mind forest builder
fidgets and trembles invents the plummet
a swishing tree branch with a ruler cunningly
the sun's panther-like patterns measure up god's light beams
feverish lava on silky fur robs the master
shiver he also builds a heavenly dome
behind locked up from rock and choir
crushing eyelashes from organ point

he is the one who can ride the demons
   the soul
   the smoke
   without him
the empire of space theory would collapse
   cannibals dance around the fire
   ladies and gentlemen
it's not the piano that rumbles,
but the earth shaking sensing her end.
