Pose

In at least one photograph
please let me look
the way I feel inside,
wearing knee-faded jeans,
a solid blue cotton work shirt,
not from some fancy store,
open at the neck, and me looking
straight at the camera,
not aggresive or hostile
but a look of pleasant surprise,
as if thinking about love,
great egrets, children, curves
of blue-green ocean waves,
working at one job all these years,
and lagoons motionless except for
gulls and drone of dragonflies,
just a hint of a smile
to show awareness of what happened
and amazement at it all.
