Little Bird

Brave little bird the warm sun shines upon you,
Starlight and moonlight beam down on your nest;
Snug in your maple tree no rain falls on you
As you keep warm your three eggs with your breast.

Patiently sit while the wind blows around you,
Wait 'til the young birds at last crack the shell;
Even the ravenous cat can't confound you
When you dig worms for them in the green dell.

Swiftly they grow and I hear their sweet cheeping,
They flap their wings and soar up in the sky,
Fly from your nest as night's shadows are creeping,
Leave you alone without saying goodby.
