Valentine Pierce

Valentine Pierce is a poet, writer, photographer and graphic designer who is very active in the New Orleans art scene. She has been writing for more than thirty years and her creative and journalistic work has been published throughout the United States. She works full-time as a graphic designer, journalist and photographer and spends most of her free time performing or creating. Her interests are varied and her hobbies include numerous handcrafts: especially embroidery, sewing, crochet, and knitting. Photo by Gus Bennett Jr.

Shannon Stewart explores the intersection of dance with embodied identities and social choreographies. She works across and through disciplines but her creative practice is body-centered.

Shannon was born in the South and came of age as an artist in the Pacific Northwest, San Francisco, and Europe. She has an MFA from Tulane University in Interdisciplinary Dance Performance, a BA in Urban Design from the University of Washington and is based in New Orleans. Her work has been presented in dance studios and art galleries, and collaborative film work has been screened at film festivals big and small.

Unlikely Salons are a new series of monthly salons of literature and art at the brand-new Zeitgeist Theatre and Lounge! At its old location, the Zeitgeist Multi-Disciplinary Arts Center, Zeitgeist has been a cornerstone of New Orleans film, art, and high entertainment. Now, it's moved to Arabi, Louisiana (just outside New Orleans) and greatly increased its programming of film, performance, and art. We're thrilled to partner with them to bring the Unlikely Salons, typically featuring one writer and one visual artist.

Unlikely Salons take place on the third Monday of every month at Zeitgeist Theatre and Lounge, 6621 Saint Claude Ave., in Arabi, Louisiana. They are hosted by Jonathan Penton and Leona Strassberg Steiner. Contact Unlikely for more information.
